Pipeline Purpose and Reliability
Gallatin Public Utilities owns, operates, and maintains a natural gas distribution system in the city of Gallatin and the surrounding areas in Sumner and Trousdale county, Tennessee. The natural gas distribution system is designed to provide residential, commercial, and industrial customers with a clean, economical, and safe source of energy. At Gallatin Public Utilities our main goal is to deliver natural gas reliably and safely to you, as part of that we want to make you aware of our pipelines and what to do in the event of an emergency.
Damage Prevention Awareness
The greatest risk to an underground natural gas pipeline is accidental damage during excavation. Even minor damage such as a dent, scrape, crease or gouge in the pipeline coating may cause a leak or failure. Gallatin Public Utilities is a member of the Tennessee One Call notification and damage prevention program. Notify Gallatin Public Utilities before you dig by calling Tennessee One Call at 1-800-351-1111 or 811. Once notified by Tennessee One Call, Gallatin Public Utilities will mark the location of our underground utilities in that area.
Hazard Awareness
Like all form of energy, natural gas must be handled properly. Despite an excellent safety record, a gas leak may pose a hazard and has the potential to ignite. Gallatin Public Utilities works diligently to insure pipeline safety and maintains an ongoing relationship with local emergency response officials, in order to prepare for and respond to a pipeline emergency.
